County council has awarded a firm from here the job of building the Centre Wellington OPP Detachment.
Tambro Construction will build the detachment, and the ground breaking was to be held May 14 at Wellington Place. The building will be built to the west of the county museum.
Tambro was the lowest of six construction bidders, the highest of which was $5.3-million. It beat another Guelph firm by $183,000.
There is a contingency fund of $400,000, and another $250,000 allotted for furniture, professional fees of $284,000, and permits and approvals costing $175,000. If all the money is spent, the total cost will be $5.83-million.
Tambro bid $4.613-million, which Police Services Board chairman Lynda White said was slightly under the county’s total estimate of $6-million.
Taxes will pay for $4-million of the cost, and there are debentures for not more than $1.833-million for 20 years.
The groundbreaking will take place at 11am.
