Contract awarded for White’s Road reconstruction

MINTO – Moorefield Excavating Ltd. has been awarded the contract for a $2.6-million reconstruction project on White’s Road (Wellington Road 5).

Town council approved awarding the tender to the Minto-based contractor on Feb. 1.

A staff report notes the project includes upgrades to sanitary sewers, watermain, storm, sidewalks and road. The work is being undertaken in conjunction with the County of Wellington.

Roads and drainage manager Mike McIsaac noted the county’s share of the project would be just over 55%.

Four submissions were received, with Moorefield Excavating Ltd. submitting the low bid at $2,593,199.

“Everybody is well aware of their work with them doing some of the larger projects over the last number of years here,” noted roads and drainage manager Mike McIsaac.

The highest bid came from Cox Construction in Guelph, with a tender of $3,449,030.

Firms from Rockwood and St. Jacobs also submitted bids for the project.
