CIP grant approved for Clifford Country Store

CLIFFORD – The Town of Minto has approved a $1,500 grant under its Community Improvement Program (CIP) for a new business here.

The grant for signage and façade improvements at the Clifford County Store was approved by council on July 12.

“The Clifford Country Store is a new business in Clifford,” a staff report states.

“Owner Sarah McGoldrick purchased the former Leonard’s General Store building and has done extensive work on the interior and exterior of the building to transform the property into a quaint country store featuring local artisans and locally sourced food products, as well as some of the regular items people have come to expect like propane and water jugs.”

“It certainly is going to be a place where people are going to stop I think,” said Mayor George Bridge.

Work covered under the grant includes:

  • repainting the front of the store;
  • improving the visibility of the steps leading up to the building;
  • fixing a hole in the front door and repainting; and
  • repainting around the windows and metal signage joints.

The work totals $3,000 and qualifies for a grant of $1,500, the report explains.

Treasurer Gordon Duff noted about $48,000 of the $100,000 CIP budget has been spent so far.

“Glad to see some more work going on in the commercial sector,” he observed.
