Celebrating in Centre Wellington

Whether one calls it Dominion Day or Canada Day, July 1 is going to be a day to celebrate in Centre Wellington.

Elora Dominion Day Celebrations

MacDonald Square and Geddes Street is the focus of the morning events with the Elora Volunteer Firefighters Pancake Breakfast from 7 to 11am.

From 8 to 11am Geddes Street from Colborne to David Street will be closed for the soap box derby.

Elora’s annual Dominion Day parade hosted by the Centre Wellington Rotary Club starts at 11am from the Elora arena, winding its way through the community and finishing at Bissell Park.

The club is sponsoring programming and entertainment at the park from noon to 2pm.

From noon to 1pm the Elora Lions Club will be providing free hot dogs.

Noon – Performances by the Blue Bonnet Highland Lassies;

12:30pm – Diamonds in the Ruff Dog demo;

1pm – Puppets Elora;

1:30pm – Duck Race-Centre Wellington Rotary; and,

Noon to 2pm – Music by Transit.

Fergus Canada Day Events

The Centre Wellington Sportsplex in Fergus is offering a free public swim for the first 40 kids.

There will also be free birthday cake for the first 500 kids.

Twilight Canada Day Celebrations from 3pm to 10pm include: free pony rides, and antique car and tractor show,  live entertainment, food vendors, a midway (until dusk) and dazzling fireworks.

Admission is a donation to the new Groves Hospital Foundation.

Belwood Flotilla

The Belwood Lake Cottagers’ Association is having its 7th annual Canada Day flotilla on July 1.

Starting at 12pm, the boats will be making one loop around the lake beginning in front of the Shand Dam. The Wellington County OPP marine unit will be marshalling again this year. All are welcome to participate and to decorate their boats, docks, cottages, pets and themselves with their best Canadian gear.

Artisan sale

Looking for a chance to sit back and relax? The Elora Legion Branch 229 is offering a Canada Day Jam on the patio starting at 11am … with live music and burgers.

Elsewhere on site, plans are in the works for a Canada Day Craft and Artisan Event from 10am to 4pm at the Legion.

The event is described as offering something for the entire family, from the chance to tie dye a T-shirt to get a henna tattoo, face painting or just getting a snack.
