GUELPH - Students from Guelph Family Martial Arts, coached by local residents and world champs Nathan and Sophie Skoufis, returned from the Ontario Provincial Martial Arts Championships

ELORA – Helen Mills, left, and partner Ev Robson won the first lawn bowling tournament of the season at the Elora Lawn Bowling Club on June 10.

MOOREFIELD – The Moorefield Athletic Association recognized a century of making the community the local destination for a good, old-fashioned ball game.

MAPLETON – A local youth has just achieved the top honour in high school track and field.   Mapleton resident Joel Rumph won the gold medal in Junior boys high jump at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships in Ottawa on June 9.   

Special Olympics athletes Jennifer Allen and Marc Richardson are representing Team Canada in the 2023 World Games in Berlin, Germany.

ARTHUR – Arthur Minor Softball has received sponsorship donations from Arthur Opti-Mrs, Arthur 2nd Look and the Arthur Lions Club.

CENTRE WELLINGTON - The Centre Wellington Shuffleboard Club held a successful Ontario Shuffleboard Association Tournament with people attending from all over Ontario.

Blasts from the past – The photo of Bert and Ab Hesselink at the ball park in Moorefield,  and a Moorefield Athletic Association (MAA) float in a past parade, were supplied by the MAA, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023.

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots had an excellent Provincial Junior Hockey League season this year. 

FERGUS – The Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) field lacrosse team captured the CWOSAA Championship on May 24.

GUELPH – Athletes, teachers, supporters and volunteers filled the fields at St. James Catholic High School for the 19th Special Olympics Track and Field day.

Sporting life – Artist Blaze Wiradharma was busy working on the latest public art display for the Town of Minto last week, a sports-themed mural on the Cox Sanitation building in Harriston.

MINTO – Four local groups designated as recipients of the proceeds from the 2023 Minto Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament were introduced at the May 9 town council meeting.

ARTHUR – The Arthur U11 Local League team has won the division championship.
