Busy weekend in Ponsonby

Ponsonby Minor ball hosted the OASA Provincial Mites U10 boys on Aug. 13 to 14.  In spite of the heavy rains on Saturday the tournament did finish on Sunday.

In A division the team from Plattsville, Drumbo, Princeton (PDP) came away with the gold medal over a strong team from Napanee.

PDP won all five games played.  Pitcher Sean Demarest pitched a perfect game in his opening game on Saturday in his 10-0 win over Durham.    

Sebringville won 5-2 over Baden for the bronze medal.  Over in Elora, the team from Kitchener-Waterloo beat equally strong team from Innerkip 5-4 for the gold medal in the B division.

“It was a pleasure hosting the teams,” said Shirley Obergan, tournament host.

“Special thanks to our diamond crew who performed miracles getting the diamonds ready after the torrential rain on Saturday.”

The park will be hosting a Select U12 girls tournament on Aug. 27.

There are five teams entered. Ponsonby will be playing teams from Exeter, St. George and Aurora.  The first game starts at 9am and finals  to start at 4:45pm.
