At Project READ Literacy Network’s family literacy program, Get Set Learn, families come together to learn the importance of reading daily and creating a home that is literacy-rich.

Research says that children who are read to everyday before attending school have higher achievement levels in both reading and math in later grades.

Reading aloud is the most important activity a family can do together to prepare children for school and life, organization officials state.

10 reasons to read with your child:

- reading stimulates your child’s imagination;

- children learn new words by reading;

- reading builds concentration and memory;

- children learn about the world through books;

- reading builds listening skills;

- children learn letter and word awareness;

- reading with your child will bring you closer;

- children grow on positive attention of story time;

- you will give your child a life- long love of books; and

- Your child will learn that language is important.

Reading out loud to your child 15 minutes every day brings all the benefits listed above as well as prepares your child for school, officials state.
