Arthur Bantam Aces win tournament

June 7 saw the Arthur Bantam Aces host their annual home tourney. The BBQ’s were fired up, and the parents, players and coaches were ready to go.

The boys were first on the floor at 8am to face Guelph 3. Despite the early morning, coach Reg Holinshead relayed the message from the start that the boys be prepared to play three games. The boys stepped up to the challenge and the first win came after a good all around game at 4-2.

The second game saw the Aces come up against a tough Oakville team. The boys showed some great Sportsmanship and discipline in this game. The small town boys showed the city folk how to really play the game, team officials state, and the Aces once again came up with a hard fought win of 5-3.

The wins took the boys straight to the finals. The bruises and sore muscles from the other games did not hold them back, as they defeated Simcoe with a score of 12-6 and earned their first tournament championship win this year.

The team continues to improve and learn with each game. Coach Holinshead is an inspiration to the boys to expect to be good and to get better, officials say.

The team wishes congratulations to the boys, the entire coaching staff and many thanks to all of those who supported the team throughout the day.

As well as playing lacrosse many of the boys have been celebrating Grade 8 graduates from various local elementary schools.

The Bantam Boys play their next home games on June 30 at 9pm and July 2 at 9pm at the Arthur Community Centre.
