Art workshops coming to Aboyne museum

The Wellington County Museum and Archives is offering summer art workshops for the 21st season.

From July 2 to 31, participants can choose from 18 different workshops, lasting two, three or five-days. There are six three-day courses this year – a great way to learn a new technique without losing a whole week of vacation, officials state.

The museum is offering a diverse selection of media and skill levels, all taught by the area’s top art instructors.

Whether the participant is looking to “brush-up” existing abilities or discover new ones, there is sure to be a course that will inspire them, officials state.

There are courses on painting, photography, textiles, sculpture, beading, engraving and working with glass.

Kicking off the month of classes is Clive Lewis with an “easy and fun intro to engraving” and Sharyn Seibert following up on last year’s very popular “collage using your own artwork.” Both are two-day courses.

Among the other instructors teaching the workshops is Elora artist Heather Woods, who will teach a two-day course: painting on glass to create art pieces or jewelry. New to the roster of favourites this year are Al Cote, teaching a quilted rugs and fabric folding week-long course and Karen Kesteloot who will be teaching two three-day courses, one on water colour skies and water and the other on egg tempera techniques.

Debbie Thompson Wilson is also joining the roster for two courses this summer, her week-long medieval illumination and gilding course is almost full, but she is also teaching a medieval sampler weekend course at the end of the month.

Ross Davidson-Pilon is back for a week-long course in digital photography and organizers are also excited to have Naomi Smith teaching woodland beaded hide bag, inspired by centuries-old techniques popularized by the Woodlands people of the Great Lakes region.

Visit www.wellington.ca/museum for a complete listing of all 18 workshops.

Brochures are also available at the Wellington County Museum and Archives and all Wellington and Guelph libraries. Registration can be taken over the phone, in person or by mail.

All prices include HST. For a five-day course the cost is  $254; for a three-day course the cost is $152; and for a two-day course the cost is  $101.

All workshops run from 9am to 4pm each day with approximately an hour for lunch.  Located on Wellington Road 18 between Fergus and Elora, the Wellington County Museum and Archives is an accessible, climate controlled facility with ample parking.
