Announcing the Giles Hume 4-H Ontario Centennial Award

As celebrations continue for its 100th anniversary in 2015, 4-H Ontario is announcing the Giles Hume 4-H Ontario Centennial Award.

A 4-H alumnus and volunteer of nearly 60 years, donor Giles Hume was a proud recipient of the Syngenta 4-H Ontario Arbor Award in 2002, as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2012.

The award recognizes leadership and dedication to community betterment and will be granted to a recipient to assist with their first year of post-secondary education as recognition of excellence in 4-H and their home community.

A long time supporter of the 4-H program, Hume enjoys helping others and working with kids and youth and seeing them develop into different avenues.

“Once you’re working with these young people it’s part of your life for the rest of your life and that is what it’s become for me—a lifetime effort with young people. Young people are great and given the right opportunity, can do great things,” said Hume.

Established this year in honour of the 100 year anniversary of 4-H in Ontario, the $2,000 award is open to any 4-H Ontario member in good standing, who has paid their membership fee the year the award will be given and is enrolled in at least one club at the time of the application.

The youth must also have been a 4-H member in the previous year and have completed at least one club that year.

Deadline for applications is Friday, July 31.
