Remembering county’s D-Day contributions on 80th anniversary
NORMANDY – June 6 marks 80 years since Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to begin the liberation of western Europe. Nearly 150,000 troops, including more than 14,000 Canadians landed or parachuted into the area on the June 6, 1944 D-Day invasion, also called Operation Overlord.
Vehicle fire closes Centre Wellington’s 8th Line after truck crashes into guard rail
CENTRE WELLINGTON – A renovation company’s vehicle and all the tools inside were destroyed by fire after the truck hit a bridge on 8th Line in Centre Wellington Township on June 5.
Council approves updated version of Fergus South Secondary Plan
FERGUS – Centre Wellington council has passed the Fergus South Secondary Plan. The plan still calls for higher density than the community is used to but changes have been made to lower buildings on Highway 6 from eight storeys to six and allow four-storey buildings low-density areas.
Air cadet squadron to bolster ranks or be grounded
MOUNT FOREST – The future of the Mount Forest air cadets squadron is up in the air. The squadron was notified last November it was being placed on probation because of low participation numbers and a need for more adults to help run the program.
