GUELPH – The University of Guelph’s School of Theatre, English and Creative Writing is to present The Late Wedding by Christopher Chen as its fall 2025 theatre production, running Nov. 13 to 15 at 8pm.
The production is to take place at the Black Box Theatre in the Arts Research Centre, MacKinnon Building.
Officials say the wildly inventive play takes the audience on a journey through a series of interconnected stories.
These narratives vary from an anthropological tour through the marriage customs of fictional groups to a spy thriller to a sci-fi set deep in space.
At its core lies the unravelling of a marriage, with each story reflecting on love, relationships and the ways that art and everyday life can blur together.
This production is the culminating work of two theatre workshop courses, with 23 third- and fourth-year students involved in performing, designing and building the show under the direction of faculty member Kim McLeod.
The show contains some strong language, references to gun violence and drowning, the depiction of a gun onstage and the use of theatrical lighting and sound.
