4-H: Getting baby chicks

After excited members arrived with cardboard boxes, the second meeting of Mimosa’s Poultry Club was opened with the 4-H pledge, roll call, press and secretary reports.

Members looked at pictures of various types of chickens, noticing differences in them from birth to full grown.

We then watched two videos on what to feed, how to take care of, and how to set-up shelters for our baby chicks.  Members divided into groups and shared funny chick-raising stories.

Finally, the moment came, when each club member grabbed their cardboard boxes and picked out his/her own baby chicks. We each received a bag of starter feed and wood shavings for bedding to get us started.

There were many smiles on faces and the chirping sounds of dozens of baby chicks could be heard everywhere. We closed the meeting with the 4-H motto.
