Students across the area here will be joining more than 100,000 Canadian youth participating in the World Vision 30 Hour Famine on April 16 and 17 to raise funds for Haiti relief and recovery efforts – as well as other development projects.
Last April, area youths from schools, churches, and organizations volunteered 30 hours of their time and raised $2,795 to help children and families struggling to stay alive.
By doing the famine, youth go without food for 30 hours and learn about issues resulting from poverty in order to better understand what the worlds most vulnerable go through on a daily basis. The goal this year is to raise $5-million.
In January, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Port-au-Prince, Haiti, destroying homes and affecting millions of Haitians. It is estimated that more than 200,000 Haitians were killed during the quake and millions have been left homeless.
