Young Guelph actress gets Hollywood nomination

Ten-year-old Madison Brydges of Guelph has received a prestigious nomination for her stage work in  Toronto.

Madison, who is the daughter of Kelly and Steve Brydges, has been invited to attend the 35th Annual Young Artist Awards on May 4 in Studio City, California – a ceremony held in the shadow of Universal City Studios with Walt Disney Studios and Warner Brothers Studios nearby.

For the past 34 years the non-profit Young Artist Awards have honoured the best young stars (up to the age of 21) in the entertainment world.  This includes work in feature and short film, TV shows, voice-overs and live theatre.

Brydges is among the Young Actress nominees this year for Best Performance in Live Theatre. She is being recognized for her work in the stage play Numbers, performed at the Winchester Theatre in Toronto, when she was nine years old.

Brydges had extensive dialogue in her role as Halina, a girl who recalls her experiences in Poland during the 1930s and Second World War. Her character lives through the Holocaust, endures the brutal murder of her mother by the Nazis, and then is forced into hiding. Brydges is up against four other young actresses from Canada, Switzerland and the U.S. for the award.

Brydges was also in the stage play Peter Pan: The Musical, as one of the lost boys, at the Niagara Theatre in Niagara Falls. She also played the part of Claire in the short film, Nayan and the Evil Eye, and was Little Frieda in the Discovery Channel’s TV show, Close Encounters. In addition, she danced at Disneyland and in New York, performing on The Lion King stage.

In both 2012 and 2013 she won honours at the Miss All Canadian Pageant.
