World Day of Prayer had full church

The World Day of Prayer Ecumenical Service was held at St James Anglican Church here last month.

A full church of more than 75 people considered the theme How many loaves have you?

Participants reflected on the many gifts that God has given and the call to share those gifts. On the same day, others in Canada and around the world gathered to pray and act in solidarity with the people of Chile.

Members from the following churches took leadership roles in the service: St. James and St John’s Anglican, St. Andrews and Knox Presbyterian, Central Pentecostal, St. Josephs and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic, Faith Lutheran and Melville United. Ursula Ellis accompanied on the piano during the singing of hymns.

During the service everyone learned about various cultures in Chile including the importance of bread at every meal. They also learned about the struggles people of Chile have experienced and the challenges they still experience every day.

The service ended with the reflection: “We share our joys and sorrows, our dreams and hopes.

“Together we pray with the world, for the world, in a common feeling of trust, sisterhood, brotherhood and love.”

A symbolic piece of bread was distributed to all as they left the church.

A time of fellowship followed the service in the St. James Church Hall.
