Workshop to help those going through separation or divorce

Personal experience has led Nancy Payne to help others.

During a recent phone interview Payne said she had recently gone through a marital separation and was looking for looking for local self-help courses – only to discover there were none.

She ended up taking a course in Guelph, which she said was really helpful, but was almost an hour’s drive away.

Because she saw a need, she decided to offer a new, local self-help group and course for those separated or divorced in northern Wellington County.

She explained the 10 weeks of sessions will cover things from self-image, anger, guilt, loneliness, to forgiveness and happiness.

The group will meet Tuesday evenings (7 to 9pm) at the First Baptist Church, starting Oct. 6.

She believes these workshops would be helpful to anyone, whether or not they have gone through a separation or divorce.

Payne noted that one focus is the helping to build back self esteem.

She has just started to get out the word out, and people seem to believe it is a good idea. “We’ll wait and see what the response is.”

She added the course is not exactly a “drop-in” event.

Payne explained that each week covers a different topic and people should be there from the beginning for participants to feel comfortable and share with each other.
