Workshop series aims to make seniors ‘gadget smart’

WELLINGTON NORTH – Seniors living in northern Wellington who are interested in becoming more “gadget smart” are invited to join an upcoming series of peer-led workshops.

The workshops, delivered through Wellington North’s New Horizons Project, will focus on use of hand-held technology such as tablets and smartphones.

The in-person workshops will run from 11am to noon:

  • at the Mapleton Health Centre boardroom in Drayton on Mondays between Sept. 20 and Nov. 1, except for Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11
  • at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex on Tuesdays from Sept. 7 to Dec. 14;
  • on Thursdays from Sept. 9 to Dec. 16 at the Lions Club CNRA Clubhouse in Palmerston; and
  • on Fridays from Sept. 10 to Dec. 17 at the Arthur and Area Community Centre.

The workshops will allow up to 10 seniors interested in learning how to use hand-held technology to connect virtually with people and programs.

Participants will learn about safe online practices, including the realities of online fraud and financial abuse and how to connect with peers and family. The workshops are offered at no cost to participants and tablets will be provided for use during workshops.
