Woolwich bridge in Salem to shut down for additional repairs

It looks like some local residents will be facing longer drives – at least in the short term.

The Woolwich Street bridge in Salem will again be shut down from March 11 to 22.

During that time, Union Gas will working to complete a permanent repair (temporary repair was completed in December) to one of the gas mains that is attached to the Salem Bridge.

The timing of the work by Union Gas during March Break is intended to minimize the impact on schools and bussing.

The same detour route will be posted as was utilized in the closure in December last year.

Notification of the bridge closing was forwarded to the Township of Centre Wellington, the local fire department and police services.

In the short term, the move divides Salem in half, following a decision earlier this year to close Salem’s other bridge on Washington Street.

Centre Wellington’s director of infrastructure Colin Baker did not anticipate additional impacts to Salem residents.

The detour directs traffic to David Street in Elora and Wellington Road 7.
