Tournament win marks first time school has ever captured title

MOUNT FOREST – The Senior Girls Volleyball team from Wellington Heights Secondary School (WHSS) captured the District 4 Championship on Feb. 14 during a playoff tournament held at the Mount Forest school.

After losing the first set of a semi-final match with the Norwell District Secondary School from Palmerston, the WHSS Wolverines battled back, taking three straight sets for the win.

The team then moved on to the District 4 final against Westside Secondary School from Orangeville later in the day.

“The matchup proved to be a very exciting one for the fans on hand, as it went to the full five sets in order to determine a winner,” states a press release from the school.

“Wellington Heights won in the fifth set to win the District 4 Sr. Girls Volleyball Championship for the first time in the school’s history.”

School officials say coaches Bridget Kosempel and Adam Barnard are “very proud of their team’s accomplishment, and they appreciated the fan support, which created a thrilling atmosphere for the student athletes.”

The WHSS team now moves on to the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) tournament on Feb. 23 in Kitchener.
