Wellington North launches Youth Action Council

Wellington North is set to be the second municipality in Northern Wellington to host a Youth Action Council, a platform that gives a voice to youth wanting to make a difference in our community.

A Youth Action Council is a youth-driven, grassroots initiative made up of local youth volunteers, aged 14-24. By being involved in the Wellington North Youth Action Council, youth will have an opportunity to give their input into programs and opportunities available to youth, as well as, learn and develop leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Being a part of this new Youth Action Council allows youth to affect change in their community and make a difference in the issues that affect them.

The Township of Wellington North, with support from the Wellington North Cultural Roundtable, has partnered with the Mount Forest Chamber of Commerce Community Animator, as well as, the North Wellington Coalition for Youth Resiliency to provide youth with this amazing opportunity to have a voice in the community and the tools to make a difference. The collaboration will further the long-term sustainability of the program and provide a civic-minded, community connection for all involved.

The adult allies involved include: April Marshall (Wellington North), Trish Wake (Mount Forest Chamber of Commerce), Gabriella Ieropoli (Community Youth Resiliency Worker) and Leslie Binnington (Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health).
