Wellington North gives $2,500 to Mount Forest Minor Ball

Wellington North approved a grant of $2,500 to Mount Forest Minor Ball on Jan. 8.

The grant was part of the township’s Community Initiated Projects program, which provides assistance to community organizations.

The ball association submitted an application in December to cover 50 per cent of a $5,000 project to move a batting cage from Cork Street Park to Kinsman Park in Mount Forest.

“It’s a good application to put our support behind,” said councillor Steve McCabe.

The grant program was established in 2017 and $50,000 was set aside in the 2017 budget.

The only other application was from the Mount Forest Lions Club for a $10,000 grant for additional playground equipment in Mount Forest.

“I think (the program is) a good one in terms of establishing partnerships with other organizations, community service organizations, Sports organizations to do things in our community that might not otherwise get done,” said economic development officer Dale Small.

The other 50% of the Mount Forest Minor Ball project was provided through two private donations.

“This is how we move our community forward … working with community groups,” said Mayor Andy Lennox.
