KENILWORTH – A $23,000 federal grant is being used to help seniors in north Wellington stay "in-the-know" while online.

The New Horizons For Seniors Program funding was announced by the township via a Feb. 22 press release.

Township human resources manager Amy Tollefson, who led the project application, stated funding will "enable us to help seniors better understand all the online tools that are available, and will also help educate them on safe online practices."

In the release, Mayor Andy Lennox stated the funding will be used to recruit a staffer "who will connect with and deliver in-person workshops to seniors in our community."

Municipal partners in Minto and Mapleton, and community organizations Mount Forest Lions and the Seniors Centre of Excellence provided letters supporting the application.

The workshop program will be launched this spring and is open to seniors in Wellington North, Minto and Mapleton.
