Wellington North closes indoor recreation facilities

KENILWORTH – Wellington North Township has closed all municipally-operated indoor recreation facilities to the public.

The move, effective Jan. 5, comes in response to the introduction of new pandemic restrictions by the Ontario government, driven by an increase in COVID-19 cases locally and across the province.

In a Jan. 4 statement, township officials note staff will work on issuing a full refund to anyone impacted by the closures and will initiate contact as soon as possible.

Vaccine and blood donor clinics or COVID testing centres scheduled to operate out of any municipal facility will continue as scheduled.

In addition to closing facilities, all municipally-run recreation programs; including indoor walking, public skating, parent and tot skating and older adult skating, will also be cancelled.

The Wellington North municipal office has been closed to the public since Dec. 24 and will remain closed until further notice, officials state.

Staff will continue to be available via phone and email while working remotely. The township is encouraging residents to make payments for property taxes, dog tags and accounts receivable invoices through online banking, by mail or by using the secure 24/7 drop box at the front of the municipal office.

Residents requiring a municipal service that cannot be served by an alternative transactional method (i.e., online or by phone), are asked to make an appointment to meet with staff in person. To arrange a meeting contact the administrative office call 519-848-3620 or email township@wellington-north.com.

Additional information regarding municipal services and a staff directory can be found online at www.wellington-north.com.

Individuals who have questions or concerns regarding COVID-19 are urged to contact Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health at 519-822-2715 extension 4020 or visit www.wdgpublichealth.ca.

“The Township of Wellington North’s first priority is to ensure the health and safety of our residents, visitors and staff,” officials state.
