Wellington County seems happy with split representation at federal level

It seems that Wellington County is happy with the status quo – at least in terms of how the county is represented federally.

Though alluded to in previous meetings, Wellington County Warden Chris White’s response to proposed boundary changes drew little comment from Puslinch councillors recently.

In his letter, White stated that in September 2012, Wellington County council supported the boundaries commission’s proposal for Wellington which retained the status quo.

The status quo splits Wellington County’s representation between the ridings of Wellington-Halton Hills and Perth-Wellington.

“The majority of our members felt that the county had been well served by the ridings and the members serving the area. We looked forward to the stability that the Commission’s proposal provided.”

He spoke briefly to a proposed revision to place all of Wellington in one new riding with Woolwich Township.

White said “There is a strong view that we continue to favour the Commission’s initial proposal-the status quo. Having two members of Parliament both provincially and federally has provided us with an effective balance between the number of elected representatives and their clear connection to our community.”
