WEB ONLY: Hudak wins leadershipof Ontario PC party

Tim Hudak won the Progressive Conservative leadership campaign over the weekend, winning the job on the third ballot over three other contenders.

Hudak has already been in contact with leadership candidates Christine Elliott, Frank Klees, and Randy Hillier, and said the party must be united as it heads into the 2011 election against Premier Dalton McGuinty’s Liberal government.

Hudak defeated Klees on the final ballot by about 1,000 votes.

“I thank the thousands of people across the province who voted for me, supported me and volunteered on my campaign,” said Hudak.

He also thanked interim leader Bob Runciman for his work as interim leader after John Tory resigned the post after failing to win a by-election earlier this year.
