WEB: Arnott congratulates new Premier and raises local issues to forefront

In congratulating Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne on her election as the new leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott noted that Wynne faces a myriad of problems ahead.

“To say that Ontario faces many challenges would be an understatement,” Arnott said.

“As the new Premier, Ms. Wynne has a responsibility to explain what she is going to do to correct the mistakes of the last 9 years and to start moving Ontario in the right direction again.”

In his Jan. 28 letter, Arnott informed Wynne of some of the issues and concerns of Wellington-Halton Hills.

These include:

· Jobs and the economy – more than half a million Ontarians are out of work;

· Small Business – by reducing red tape, taxes, and fees, this most dynamic and innovative sector of the economy could begin to thrive again;

· Deficit;

· Debt;

· Redevelopment projects in the hospitals in Georgetown and Fergus

· Education;

· Highway 6 Morriston bypass;

· Horse Racing industry stabilization;

· A wind energy moratorium until health studies are completed;

· Agriculture to ensure the success of our farm families;

·  Hydro bills to reduce the upward pressure on hydro rates.

 “Over the past 3 months while the Legislature has been prorogued, I’ve had the opportunity to attend numerous community events and to speak with hundreds of people across the riding,” Arnott noted.

“I wanted to take the first possible opportunity to make sure that the new Premier is well aware of the issues that matter to our communities.”

Wynne has indicated that she intends to recall the Ontario Legislature on Feb. 19 and Arnott intends to to push the government for solutions on these issues.
