Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health officials are asking people: Do food inspection results matter?

They ask if it matters if a favourite eatery has passed a food inspection? Would it make a difference in choosing where to eat?

WDG Public Health is offering a short survey where people can share their opinions.  “Our routine food inspections help to identify health hazards and reduce the risk of food-borne illness,” said Shawn Zentner, program manager for food safety.

“And we are mandated to make inspection reports available to the public. By conducting the survey, we hope to determine what information our community wants and how we can best communicate our inspection results.”

Public health inspectors examine and evaluate food establishments on many criteria, including:

– food storage temperatures, hot and cold;

– cooking, reheating, and cooling times and temperatures of food;

– personal hygiene of employees;

– food production methods and procedures;

– flow of food through receiving, storage, preparation, and service; and

– dish and equipment washing and sanitizing procedures

The survey is available online until April 9 at www.wdgpublichealth.ca. Click on the link Food Inspection Disclosure Survey under Get Involved. Or complete the survey by phone by calling 1-800-265-7293 extension 4605. The survey is anonymous and participation is voluntary.
