WCDSB reaches tentative agreements with OECTA

The Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) announced on Dec. 9 that a tentative local agreement was reached on Dec. 8.

On Dec. 10 an agreement was reached with the occasional teachers bargaining unit.

Details of the tentative agreements will not be released until the ratification process is completed in January.

“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement based on mutual respect and a shared focus on students and their learning,” board chair Marino Gazzola said in a press release. “We value the commitment of our teachers to the faith formation and success for all students.”

Mark Berardine, president of the Wellington Catholic unit of OECTA, said, “The board and OECTA entered negotiations with a clear desire to reach a fair and equitable collective agreement for our teachers.

“We look forward to continuing to work together to achieve excellence in Catholic education through learning, leadership and service.”

Occasional teacher bargaining unit president Tim O’Brien said, “We are happy to have brought the process to a positive conclusion. Our shared responsibility for student achievement and faith development remained a guiding principle throughout the collective bargaining process.”
