Water, sewer rates set to increase next year for Wellington North residents

WELLINGTON NORTH – Residents here are likely to notice their water and sewer fees increase in the new year, according to a report presented to council on Oct. 11.

The increase would follow recommendations from a water and wastewater rate study conducted in 2020 recommending rates go up by 1.5 per cent each year, over a four-year period, from 2022-26.

Yearly water and wastewater base rates for residents are projected to rise from $1,246 in 2021 to $1,342 by 2026, an overall increase of 7.7%.

Council still needs to vote on a revised fees and charges bylaw, to be presented at a future council meeting, for the change to take effect on Jan. 1.

The proposed fee increase would see monthly water and wastewater base rates increase from $103.98 in 2022 to $105.54 in 2023.

The annual water base rate would increase next year by $8.51 for residents and $10.20 for non-residential users.

The annual sewer base rate would increase next year by $10.47 for residents and $12.55 for non-residential users.
