Water deflection work approved

A water deflection bump is being made permanent on Main Street in Morriston.

But what exactly is a water deflection bump?

“I knew someone was going to ask,” said Puslinch roads superintendent Don Creed in response to councillor Ken Roth’s question on April 3.

The cost of the bump came in at slightly less than $1,000.

Creed explained that following construction in the area in 2011, “we ended up with quite a water issue – especially in the dead end portion of Main Street.”

At that point, instead of going to the expense of removing the new asphalt and regrading,  the department came to an agreement with the affected homeowner to try a different approach – on a temporary basis. Creed described the bump as more of a temporary berm to divert the water.

He said two winters and two springs later, the approach is working well.

Creed said that what was installed at the time was only a temporary measure.

“Now it is time to put something more permanent in place.”
