Volunteer shop to close May 26

Second Time ‘Round, a small volunteer run thrift store in Elora will close its doors after 16 years of operation.

Second Time ‘Round opened its doors in 1996 and has donated over $145,000 to the Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home helping provide extra comforts to residents. The money raised through the shop has helped finance a barbecue, a Snoezelen Sensory Stimulation therapy room, Christmas gifts and decorations for residents, a wheelchair bike, a bariatric bed, a summer student to tend to a special garden area and most recently an outdoor pavilion.

With the rising cost to run a small business and several similar donation agencies opening in the Centre Wellington area, Second Time ‘Round was unable to continue to compete.

“I would like to thank all of the volunteers who have generously worked at Second Time ‘Round for the past 16 years,” said Peter Barnes, Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home Administrator.

“Their hard work and dedication has helped enhance the quality of life for our residents. I’d also like to thank the local community members who have supported Second Time ‘Round by donating and purchasing items.”

The idea for the retail store was initiated and implemented by staff, with the sole purpose that all the proceeds go to enhancing the quality of life for Terrace residents.

Second Time ‘Round operates solely on support of community volunteers who make up 100% of the work force.

Second Time ‘Round, located on 136 Metcalfe Street in Elora will close its doors on May 26 at 3pm.
