Visser to head council in mayors absence

It’s not exactlly a promotion, but Centre Wellington councillor Walt Visser was recently approved to act as head of council should mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj not be available.

The bylaw, passed late last month, appointed Visser for a one-year term.

Visser would be the acting head of council should the mayor be absent or refuse to act or if the office is vacant.

As acting head, he would have all the powers and duties of the mayor.

The appointment is for one year and expires on Dec. 31, 2011.
