Valentine”™s Fashion Show to raise funds for Elora”™s green space

Three local businesses and a number of local models are pulling together to raise funds for the recently-created green space at the corner of Metcalfe Street and Mill Street West in Elora’s downtown core.

Laura Demers of  Epiphany Apparel, Doris Devin of Devin Studios and Resa Lent of the Desert Rose Cafe have pooled their resources to put on a fashionable event.

“Doris and I were so pleased with the response we received to our fashion show last fall, which raised $1,000 for Habitat for Humanity’s latest project on Forfar Street in Fergus,” said Demers. “We wanted to do something for Elora this time, and offering some financial support for the park seemed like the right choice.”

Devin said the green space has been an important addition to the community.

“Business owners in the downtown core were so excited to see such a depressing spot turned into something so beautiful,” said Devin.

“The Elora BIA, Centre Wellington Township, and several other local businesses have already done so much to make that project happen. But there are still some bills to pay for work and material that was provided at cost, and now we want to do our part to say ‘thank you.’”

As the recently elected chair of Elora’s BIA, Lent is thrilled to see local businesses supporting a local project.

“Everybody’s enjoying the green space, but not everybody knows that a considerable amount of debt is still owing for those improvements,” said Lent. “Not only are we going to have great food, music and fashion at this event, but the money raised is going to be put toward a space that this whole town can be proud of.”

The Valentine’s Fashion Show starts at 7pm on Feb. 12 at The Elora Centre for the Arts. Tickets are $35 each, available for purchase at the following locations: Epiphany Apparel (36 Mill Street West) and Devin Studio (72 Geddes Street).
