Township reminds that burn permits are available on line

The Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue Department is advising township residents that open air burning requires  a special permit.

The department issued the reminder so residents who decide on the long weekend they want to have a backyard fire or other opportunity to burn wood realize they can obtain a permit on the township web site and have their fire shortly after it is issued online.

The permit covers such things as outdoor fireplaces, recreational campfires and all outdoor fires

Standard permits are valid from the time of issuance to the end of that calendar year. A permit fee is $25 is applicable and can be obtained by:

– completing the permit application found at  www.centrewellington.ca.

To do that, click Online Burning Permit to complete the Permit Application found under Online Services menu. Payment options include: Visa, Master Card and Interac Online (with participating financial institutions.)

Permits are also available at the administration office of the Fergus Fire Station, 250 Queen St. West from Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm by cash or cheque.

Fire officials note that any variance to the open air burning permit for an outdoor fireplace or recreational campfire must be approved. If an inspection of the site is required by the Public Safety Officer, a permit fee of $40 is applicable.
