Township may dedicate trail to Stokley

Residents here can now take a walk on the wild side – along the newly constructed trail along Mill Creek.

The trailway, along Mill Creek at the back of the Puslinch Community Centre property, provides access to the creek and environs.

On Oct. 5, director of public works and parks Don Creed provided a verbal update to council. Creed said the trailway was marked a number of years ago – but pretty overgrown.

In mid-July work was done to redefine the trail.

Creed commented that a local company was the successful bid to help build the trail.

“At the end of the day the contractor went in and we clear cut the trail to a certain width and height – created a spurline trail to Mill Creek and a congregating area which could be utilized by school groups.”

Until then, there was little to define the trail along the forest floor.

Creed found a supplier of wood chips at a reasonable price to define the trail through the forested area.

He noted the congregation area includes the Mill Creek Ranger sign – which he felt would be a great spot for the recognition.

“At the end of the day, as far as I am concerned, the project is finished.” He encouraged residents to take a stroll through.

Councillor Ken Roth said “because of former councillor Wayne Stokley’s involvement … it would be very nice of the township to put up a plaque dedicating this to his memory.”

Councillor Matthew Bulmer agreed the dedication would be a nice touch.
