Township donates to Goderich relief fund

Wellington North Council has donated $1,000 to the Goderich disaster relief fund.

Goderich was ravaged by an F3 tornado on Aug. 8 that destroyed and damaged many businesses and buildings in the downtown core. It also resulted in one death.

Councillor Dan Yake suggested the municipality make the donation, which was approved by council.

“Apparently if it is donated through the town the province will match it,” Yake said at Monday evening’s council meeting.

Mayor Ray Tout said the community is prepared to assist Goderich with relief efforts.

“If there’s anything we can do to help, we’re here to help,” the mayor said.

Draft plan coming

Wellington North’s Economic Development Committee will be hosting a public meeting on Sept. 21 to present a draft of its Community Improvement Program (CIP).

The plan, which will outline measures to improve designated portions of Mount Forest and Arthur in a bid to attract business, has been the focus of public meetings in both communities.

It is being developed by Sean Kelly of Stempski, Kelly Associates in conjunction with public input gained from the meetings held earlier this year.

The meeting will be held on Sept. 21 at 7pm in the council chambers in Kenilworth.
