Total Minto council remuneration rises in 2017

The cost of paying local politicians in Minto rose by close to $12,000 last year.

On March 20, treasurer Gordon Duff provided a report on council remuneration and expenses for 2017.

The report, an annual requirement under the Municipal Act, shows salary and expenses paid to members of Minto council between Dec. 1, 2016 and Nov. 30, 2017 totalled $149,299.

That’s an increase of $11,624 over the previous 12-month total of $137,675.

Mayor George Bridge received a base salary of $16,411 last year, plus meeting per diems of $10,755, convention and seminar expenses of $4,813 and mileage payments of $1,037, for a total of $33,017.

Deputy mayor Ron Faulkner received a base salary of $13,235, plus $4,045 in meeting per diems, $2,206 for convention and seminar expenses and $537 in mileage for a total of $20,024.

Payments for councillors were:

– Ron Elliott: base $11,117, per diems $6,855, conventions and seminars $6,580, mileage $1,540, total $26,093;

– Mary Lou Colwell: base $11,117, per diems $4,370, conventions and seminars $3,690, mileage $640, total $19,818;

– Jean Anderson: base $11,117, per diems $4,755, conventions and seminars $2,091, mileage zero, total $17,963.

–  Judy Dirksen: base $11,117, per diems $4,010, conventions and seminars $1,021, mileage $926, total $17,075; and

– Dave Turton: base $11,117, per diems $2,375, conventions and seminars $1,267, mileage $547, total $15,306.
