Total cost for township council was $153,347 for 2010

The total cost to operate Centre Wellington council in 2010 was $153,347.

Council accepted Treasurer Wes Snarr’s report at its committee of the whole meeting on March 14.

The bulk of the expense was for council salaries. Councillors were also paid for attending extra meetings, and they also had expenses such as mileage and conventions covered.

The totals, and costs were:

– $27,791, Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj, including salary of $25,326, meetings for $1,590, and other expenses at $874;

– $30,186, councillor Walt Visser, including salary of $18,572, meetings at $4,875,  and expenses of $6,738 (as acting-mayor and a member of nearly a dozen committees Visser had more duties than other councillors);

– $21,065, councillor Kirk McElwain, salary of $16,884, meetings at $2,540, and $1,640 in expenses;

– $20,855, councillor Fred Morris, including salary at $16,884, $1,175, and $2,796;

– $20,127, councillor Robert Foster, with salary of $15,391, $1,800 for meetings, and $2,936 in expenses;

– $17,150, councillor Shawn Watters, including salary of $15,391, zero for extra meetings, and $1,759 for expenses;

– $11,690, councillor Ron Hallman, who passed away part way through the year, with salary of $11,040, meeting pay of $650, and no expenses.

New councillors Mary Lloyd, Steve VanLeeuwen, and Kelly Linton received pay of $1,493 for their time in office after the October elections.

The township also paid its committee of adjustment a total of $2,460. Alex (Sandy) Cleghorn and Pat Drimmie were paid $540, Cor Bultena and John Gamble received $480 each, and Pierre Chauvin received $420.

Hallman was a member of Centre Wellington Hydro’s board and was paid $4,564.

Ross-Zuj was paid $125 for meetings and mileage for attending the Grand River Conservation Authority.

Watters, a member of that board, received $1,313 for meetings, and another $421 in mileage for a total of $1,734.
