Time to vote

As of this Friday, Oct. 9, most ridings will offer advance polls for voters. Since we are away on Oct. 19, the actual day of the election, we are going to take advantage of this option this time. Other people facing time constraints should consider the same.

It’s a convenient way to cast a ballot. Details are included on the voting card the majority of people will have already received in the mail.

It seems most elections in recent memory have the dubious distinction of being billed as the most important ever. This one isn’t much different – its importance rests with each individual voter. For some, this election is all about Stephen Harper and his ouster from office. That certainly is clear with letters to the editor this season. Ten years is a long time in office and change is a familiar term when facing an opponent who has been in office that long.

The Canadian public will soon know the results. While we don’t see upsets in Wellington’s two local ridings, the country is a whole other matter. Even pollsters and pundits can’t quantify the mood across the country.

One thing is certain: your vote counts.
