A 40-year-old time capsule was discovered during the recent demolition of the former municipal building in Palmerston.

A contractor found the capsule when taking down the building on Daly Street, which most recently served as a Wellington OPP station.

The capsule had been placed therE by municipal official officials during construction in 1974.

The contractor advised Minto councillor David Turton of the find. Turton invited him to bring the capsule to a council meeting in September.

“It’ll be interesting to see what’s in it. I don’t know how we’ll handle it. Do we open it here? Who has jurisdiction?” Turton wondered.

“I guess we’ll see,” said Mayor George Bridge.
