Third annual run supports pediatric cancers in Ontario

The third annual  “Friends Who Care” 5km run for the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) takes place on Oct. 21.

The run is organized by Evan McFadden a grade eight student from St. Mary Catholic School who created the event with the desire to run for a cause and raise money for kids who are affected by cancer.

Last year’s run was a success raising over $1300.

There are currently over 4000 kids in Ontario battling cancer. Money raised will help these kids and their families to face the enormous challenges of childhood cancer.

Cancer is a cause that is close to McFadden’s heart, as he lost a family member to leukemia in 2011.

Runners and supporters are encouraged to participate and help raise awareness by joining in on Oct. 21 at Cedar Springs Nursery (South River Road) at 11:30am to run, walk, or bike a 5km route.

POGO is affiliated with five children’s hospitals and seven partner community hospitals (including The Grand River Hospital in Waterloo, Toronto’s Sick Kids, Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario, and McMaster Children’s Hospital) with satellite clinics that provide support and care for children and their families. Satellite clinics bring care closer to home and improve the quality of life for all family members.
