Ten-vehicle crash among many collisions during winter storm
Emergency crews responded to five crashes involving four or more vehicles on Jan. 22
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local emergency crews have responded to a number of collisions during recent winter storms, including five in one day last week that each involved four or more vehicles.
The first occurred on Jan,. 22 at about 9am on Highway 6 between Sideroads 5 and 6, north of Kenilworth. Wellington OPP officials say three SUVs and a hatchback collided and two people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
On Jan. 22 at about 12:45pm, another four-vehicle collision took place on Highway 6, between Nichol Roads 10 and 15, outside of Fergus, involving two pick-up trucks and two SUVS. Police say one person sustained minor injuries and was assessed by emergency medical services.
Just 15 minutes later, crews responded to an eight-vehicle collision on Highway 6, south of Arthur. “One individual exited their vehicle following the initial collision and was subsequently struck by another vehicle involved in the incident,” police stated. “The individual was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
At around the same time, 1pm on Jan. 22, there was a 10-vehicle collision on Highway 23 between the 5th and 7th Lines in Mint. Police say five individuals were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
At 1:30pm the same day, there was a six-vehicle collision on Highway 6 between Sideroad 18 and Jones Baseline, outside of Arthur. One individual sustained minor injuries but was not assessed by emergency medical services.
Police say no charges were laid in any of the above crashes.
No charges have been laid.
“Highway 23 between Palmerston and Harriston, as well as Highway 6 between Fergus and Mount Forest, were closed due to numerous collisions and hazardous weather conditions,” police stated
Four drivers were charged with driving on Highway 6 while it was closed on Jan. 22 and 23, including two from Mount Forest and one from Fergus.
