Tea party raises $4,138 for Groves

Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus  is $4,138 closer to getting a new digital mammography machine thanks to an afternoon of tea and fancy hats on June 19.

The fundraiser, organized by hospital volunteer Georgie Strub and hosted by the Heritage River Retirement Residence and Grand Events, drew in a crowd of approximately 100 ladies in “ditzy tea outfits.”

Over 45 raffle prizes were donated by businesses in Elora and Fergus, including gift certificates, purses and other fashion accessories.

For Strub, who recently lost a friend to breast cancer, the cause is close to home.

She hopes the availability of a digital machine in Fergus will encourage women to get tests done more frequently, as it will eliminate the need to drive to urban centres.
