TD’s annual shoreline cleanup runs again in autumn

The TD Friends of the Environment Foundation is hosting a major cleanup this fall and is looking for local volunteers.

 The TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup runs Sept. 19 to 27.

What do plastic bottles, cigarette butts, MP3 players and shopping carts have in common? They were all found on Canadian shorelines last year, contributing to pollution and harming wildlife and their habitats.

In 2008, over 63,000 Canadians in 1,531 locations took part in the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. This year, the group hopes everyone will do it again. From Sept. 19 to 27 in communities across the country participants will put on rubber boots and gloves to clean up harmful waste found on Canadian shores.

The following sites in the Wellington County area are open for registration:

– Irvine River and Grand River, Elora;

– Brimblecomb Park;

– Riverside Park; and

–   Speed River..
