Summer Kids Concert returns Aug. 30

The Fergus Brass Band’s final summer evening concert is for preschool and primary school children, and will feature interactive songs like Down by the Bay and Wheels on the Bus.

That  repeats similar popular concerts in 2006 to 2008 that attracted over 150 people young and old.

All are invited to wear funny hats. Children are invited to bring their Teddy bears for a special mid-concert picnic.

Bringing children is not necessary; just come to enjoy music and watch the activities. Guests are asked to bring picnic chairs.  After the kids head home at 7:40pm, the band will continue with Dixieland music and other favourites.

The concert will again be at Millburn Boulevard Park on Aug. 30 at 7pm.  The park runs from behind Zehrs to Scotland Street, south of Belsyde Avenue. It also backs onto the JD Hogarth school yard for convenient parking. This year’s concert is supported by the Community Resource Centre of Centre and North Wellington, which provides Ontario early years programs, licensed daycare, transportation, and other social services. Resource centre staff will help with the children’s activities.

The band will also play at the Wellington County Museum’s annual antique car show on Aug. 28 at 1pm.

The Fergus Brass Band is Ontario’s oldest continuously operating community band, being established in 1855. It has a roster of 28 and is always looking for new members.

Anyone interested should come to a practice at the band hall opposite the Fergus Legion on Tuesdays at 8pm starting in September, or email bandmaster@fergusbrassband.ca.
