Strategic thinking offers wish list and direction, says Erin Mayor Lou Maieron

Mayor Lou Maieron wants council to think about a strategic plan.

Maieron made his comments after noting he had read a copy of Centre Wellington’s strategic long term plan.

He said it not only dealt with future decisions, but the future of present decisions.

Maieron said there is potential of growth in Erin and Hillsburgh once the servicing and settlement master plan is completed.

He suggested council should focus on a potential growth strategy.

Maieron said the strategic plan is something that could be looked at once the economic development committee comes back into play.

He believes former councillor Mary Shields tried some of those visioning statements.

Maieron noted Erin is in the midst of it official plan review as well.

He believes the strategic plan review was worthy as a look at where things are working and where they are not.

“If you have a plan, you have a direction to follow. If you don’t, then council is just reacting to things that are happening, rather than acting ahead of time as to what it wants to achieve,” Maieron said.

Part of that might involve a wish list of things the municipality wants to achieve, he added.
