Stephen Fearing plays community hall on April 4

This hamlet will welcome Stephen Fearing back to the community hall on April 4 at 7:30pm.

His solo performance will draw on his eighth and most recent recording, Between Hurricanes.

Fearing’s performances can be riveting.  Roots music authority David McPherson called him a “songslinger,” and wrote that Between Hurricanes showcases his “arresting voice, accomplished acoustic picking, and his ability to turn a phrase with ease.”

Fearing described the recording as “a musical glimpse into the eye of the storms of passion, marriage and divorce, the slings and arrows of life, the troubadour’s road and a half-century of touring around the sun – a storm in a teacup?”

He moved to Halifax in 2008. From Hurricane Sandy to the crash of the Cougar Helicopter into the sea off Newfoundland, the songs reflect the dangers of the sea, and the East Coast’s heritage of “tropical storms and hurricanes (which) come roaring up the Eastern Seaboard bearing names like Juan and Sandy, wreaking complete devastation at worst and playing hell with house-painting schedules at best.”

Fearing is a member of the multiple JUNO award-winning Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Fearing has collaborated with Shawn Colvin, Richard Thompson, Sarah McLachlan, Tom Wilson, Colin Linden, and Margo Timmins. Recently, he produced Happy Here, the latest JUNO-nominated album from Suzie Vinnick.

In 2006 he released a solo album, Yellowjacket.  In the past year he has been on tour with Andy White – a songwriter and troubadour originally from Northern Ireland, and now living in Australia, with whom he recorded Fearing and White. Fearing’s performance is a fund-raiser for the community hall. The concert is for the ongoing refurbishment and energy-retrofit of the Hall.

The show is on April 4, and the doors open at 7pm. The hall is at 104 York Street.  Tickets are available at www.edenmills.ca/music (PayPal) or call 519-605-0107, or email creinhold@hotmail.ca for information.
