Speed spy

Police here are to start using new technology to place officers and cruisers where they are most needed and at the best times for traffic enforcement.

Bortolato reported the county OPP recently acquired the new tool.

“Speed Spy” is a passive, low profile application capable of collecting data that will assist in monitoring traffic flow. The roads chosen to use the equipment are selected from public traffic complaints and identified trends such as collisions, speeding and aggressive driving.

County OPP staff sergeant Vickie Dawson said, “Speed Spy has given our detachment the ability to effectively maximize and deploy front line resources while ensuring we address the public concerns regarding their safe passage on the roadways in our county.

“This new piece of technology is not meant to replace the existing traffic management equipment we utilize, but rather supplement our ability to allocate our resources based on the data collected and develop speed and collision reduction strategies.
