Solid Waste Services recycling event this weekend

The Wellington County Solid Waste Services Electronic Recycling Event is coming to Centre 2000 in Erin on Aug. 16 from 9am to 3pm.

If you have old computers, monitors, cell phones, radios, television sets or any other electronic item that is taking up space and collecting dust, this is a great way to recycle it and help the food bank.

There is no charge to drop off your items, but the county organizers of this event ask that a donation is provided in exchange for having the items collected for recycling.

Items most needed by the food bank include instant noodles, rice, baked beans, canned meats (ham, chicken and turkey), children’s school snacks and canned pasta, healthy choice cereals, jam and peanut butter, coffee or tea and hygiene products including toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, deodorant and shampoo/conditioner.

A complete list of the food banks most urgent needs can be found on the EWCS website – www.eastwellingtoncommunityservices.com .

Solid Waste Services uses a contractor, GEEP, that uses state-of-the-art equipment for recycling electronics and has a zero landfill objective. Processes used by GEEP are ISO controlled and GEEP guarantees that all data, software applications and operating systems are erased in the process.

In 2013, the Electronic Recycling days diverted over 45,000 pounds of electronic waste throughout the county and last year collected over 300 pounds of food for the EWCS food bank program. Recycle your electronics and help us help those in the community who rely on the food bank – all at one event!
